South Beach, just 15 minutes from downtown Miami, rocks,

and into the wee hours of the morning. Ditto the restaurant
scene when it comes to the hippest — not the loudest
— places to hang out, because it's the hotel bars
where you're most likely to be elbow to elbow with celebs,
models and the most upscale clientele. Most clubs want
a mix of patrons, so don't think you have to be über-hip
to get in.
Dance the night away — You know
you're not in Kansas anymore when you step onto Crobar's
dance floor and bump into a celebrity, drag queen and
an Ivy Leaguer on spring break. Located in South Beach,
Crobar has four rooms, something for everyone, wearing
anything. It's loud, crowded and high tech. Competing
guest and local DJs keep the beat going on and on and
on Thursday through Monday. Ralph Falcon, with five No.
1 hits on Billboard's dance chart, is Crobar's new Saturday
night DJ. Cover charge is $25. Arrive before 11:30 p.m.
to avoid the long lines.
Nikki Beach Club is a perfect example of a Miami Beach
dance club. It's a sophisticated outdoor/indoor playground
with the hottest DJs from here and abroad cranking up
tunes on three dance floors. In addition, there's a restaurant
and a beach with swaying palms, teepees and chic lounge
chairs. It's part of the celeb-favorite Penrod Beach Club
complex, where you'll also find Pearl, a more upscale
dance club that everyone goes to on Thursday nights because
Nikki Beach is closed. Dress hip, bring your credit card
or cash. Cover charge is $20.
