The
Fontainebleau's restaurant serves up simple,
elegant dishes in a faux Italian palazzo.
The
Scene
Matching, but not imitating, the art-deco grandeur of the landmark Fontainebleau
Hotel, Bleau View resembles an opulent Italian palazzo, with Romanesque
columns and a small piazza built around a fountain. Clientele ranges
from locals who recall the hotel's glory days in the '50s and '60s, to
a younger set who knows the Beach as the epicenter of all that is hip.
Service is exceptionally polite and attentive.
The
Food
Though the menu nods at pan-Mediterranean, its real focus is Italy. Yellowtail
carpaccio features translucent slices of fish napped with restrained
lemon vinaigrette; basil aioli adds needed flavor to a salad of mozzarella
and modestly ripe tomatoes. Bistecca alla Fiorentina is cooked precisely
medium-rare and paired with fine arrabiatta sauce. An assortment of exquisite
fish and shellfish is enhanced by an intense tomato-lobster sauce. Tiramisu
is overly sweet and made with oddly gelatinous mascarpone
